Isle of Man deploys VoIP network

The Isle of Man government has deployed a £4m voice over IP network connecting 180 locations and 4,500 public sector workers. The network will provide the government’s 3,500 civil servants with voice, data and video services at greatly reduced cost.

Google dials up VoIP

A Florida-based company confirmed on Tuesday that it has begun providing Internet telephony services for search leviathan Google as part of unnamed services potentially related to Google Talk. VoiceOne has entered into an agreement with Google and has already been providing services to it.

Skype set to launch audioconferencing service

Skype is set to introduce an audioconferencing service that will allow for conferences with as many as 500 callers. The popular VoIP service currently allows only five users on a call at one time, but that will expand when Highspeedconferencing.com gets certified as a Skype service, expected in the next few weeks, according to Skype.

Warner Music Group and phone-service company Skype Technologies are likely to announce a licensing agreement on Monday that will put ring tones on Internet phone services, the Wall Street Journal reported.

AT&T, Avaya Partner On Enterprise VoIP Solution

AT&T and Avaya have joined forces to offer a comprehensive managed voice over IP (VoIP) solution intended to simplify enterprise migrations to VoIP and IP telephony. According to the Yankee Group, the VoIP market will grow at a 31.4% compound annual growth rate, reaching $3.3 billion in 2010, and marking its move from emerging technology top the business mainstream.

Dutch cable operators start VoIP peering trials

The five largest Dutch cable operators have announced a trial of VoIP peering in the Netherlands that is expected to lead to fuller connectivity. UPC Netherlands, Casema, Multikabel, Essent and CaiW have announced the award of a contract to Xconnect partnered with Kayote Networks for a VoIP peering platform and interconnectivity solutions for routing and peering. The underlying technology is Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

Fixed line operator Brasil Telecom has announced plans to enter the VoIP market with the launch of a new service, VoipFone. Its first foray will be a low profile affair to test the market and the telco is only aiming to sign up 20,000 users during the course of 2006.

Tellfree aims for 60,000 VoIP users

Brazilian startup VoIP operator Tellfree expects to end 2006 with 60,000 clients, up from 2,000-3,000 today, company staff said at a trade event in So Paulo on Thursday. The announcement comes just as Brazil’s telecoms regulator Anatel has authorized Tellfree to connect its VoIP services with other networks.
