Philips Introduces VoIP to Nexperia Cordless Phone System Solution
Royal Philips Electronics has launched its first voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP)-enabled baseband chips for cordless phones, which will allow consumers to use a cordless phone rather than a computer or wired phone to make cheaper international and domestic calls over the Internet.
These baseband chips belong to the Philips PCD8072x family of cordless phone baseband chips and are claimed to offer phone manufacturers a simple yet feature-rich VoIP solution. The technology opens the door to other IP features, such as Internet call waiting, caller ID and data links, and also combines current cordless handset features such as color displays, with high-quality wideband voice functionality offered by IP telephony .
